Canadian Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (CAPL) is the national body representing psychiatrists in Canada with an interest in the field of forensic psychiatry. Its members and affiliates are psychiatrists and professionals in related disciplines who practice in the area of forensic psychiatry including faculty at various academic institutions, fellows and residents. CAPL supports its membership in the application of the scientific and clinical expertise to legal issues in legal contexts embracing civil, criminal, correctional or legislative matters. Its members also have specialized expertise in the assessment and treatment of special populations, including young offenders, sexual offenders and violent offenders. CAPL promotes the advancement of the clinical practice, education and research as they relate to forensic psychiatry.
